It turned out to be a spectacular event for visitors and the community of Wasaga Beach. The two earlier showings allowed viewers to take in all of the films and vote for their favourites. Between showings the viewers were entertained by several dance numbers provided by Wasaga Beach “The Dance Room” and “Dance by Design” dance companies. The event brought the Wasaga Beach Artists, Community Theatre and Archives Groups together to display their work in an impressive atmosphere of appreciation and excitement.
The event culminated in the Wasaga Beach RecPlex Lion’s Den where the films were aired to a full house followed by an awards and recognition ceremony.
The Lion’s Den doors opened at 6:30 p.m. where guests were greeted by a Fire Spinner that was performing outdoors. At 7:00 p.m. a proclamation was made by the Wasaga Beach Town Crier, Roy Wilson, accompanied by his wife, both dressed in full costume.
Gary Cerantola a resident of Wasaga Beach and Chair of the Wasaga Beach Short Film Festival hosted the event. “You could feel the buzz in the air throughout the evening. I was particularly impressed by the engagement of the youth film makers and their casts as they cheered during the award announcements,” said Gary.
The 14 submitted films were introduced by each film maker and the airings were followed by the awards.
A Special Vision award was presented to Ehab Masad, owner of Harvey’s Wasaga Beach for his leadership, vision and inspiration to launch the first Annual Short Film Festival and for producing the WBSFF inaugural film “Rendez-Vous In Wasaga Beach.”
